Log[E^a] is not evaluated at all (I expected the result to be a —this is actually an MWE, what I was trying to do was more complex). Since I still struggle to understand some of Mathematica's concepts (like when expressions are/n't evaluated), I thought (wrongly, it seems) that it was an Evaluate or Assumptions issue, but now I think it wasn't.

Jul 10, 2019 · How to Write Exponents. An exponent is a valuable mathematical tool for showing repeated multiplication. To use exponents, you need to know several mathematical rules about interpreting their meaning.
It supports polynomial equations as well as some equations with exponents, logarithms and trigonometric functions. Equation solver can find both numerical and parametric solutions of equations. The final result of solving the equation is simplified so it could be in a different form than what you expect.
Equations Containing [latex]e[/latex] One common type of exponential equations are those with base e. This constant occurs again and again in nature, mathematics, science, engineering, and finance. When we have an equation with a base e on either side, we can use the natural logarithm to solve it.
